MEET OUR FOUNDER

MANAS DUBASHI

Meet Manas Dubashi, the founder of Kai Farms — a passionate entrepreneur whose journey began after four years at Zomato, when he decided to trade corporate life for the soil. After months of hands-on mushroom training, he set up his first mushroom unit in Gurgaon in 2019, starting with humble button mushrooms. Over time, he pivoted to exotics, introducing Portobello and Baby Bella, followed by Oyster, King Oyster, and Shiitake. Determined to deepen control over quality, Manas established an in-house spawn lab — a major milestone in Kai Farms’ growth. He often says the mushroom business has been his best teacher, offering endless life lessons along the way. Manas credits much of Kai’s success to his incredible team and the unwavering support of his wife Shubha — a chef, nutritionist, and unofficial all-hands helper at the farm. When he’s not farming or experimenting with food, Manas is either watching football, working out, or deep into a podcast. A true animal lover, he lives in Delhi with his parents, Asha and Venky, and shares his home (and heart) with their beloved indie dogs — Kimchi, Kaalu, and Chanchal — and their cow, Ambé.

Impact

Sustainability

Mushroom farming stands out as one of the most eco-friendly and resource-efficient forms of agriculture. It requires very little land, water, and input compared to conventional farming methods. Mushrooms naturally grow on agricultural by-products like straw, sawdust, and coffee grounds, transforming these waste materials into highly nutritious, valuable food. They grow rapidly in controlled environments, consume significantly less water than most crops, and have a much lower carbon footprint. Even after harvest, the leftover material — known as spent mushroom substrate — doesn’t go to waste. This nutrient-rich by-product can be repurposed as organic manure for farming, used in animal feed, converted into bioenergy, or applied in bioremediation projects to help restore contaminated soils. It’s a closed-loop system that benefits both the environment and local economies.

Our Community

We’re proud to be one of the leading mushroom farms in India, making a meaningful impact in the world of Indian agriculture. Beyond growing premium-quality mushrooms, we’ve built a strong community by partnering with farms across the country, creating our very own mycelium network that’s helping take Indian mushroom farming to new heights. Our operations are fully locally sustained — from sourcing to cultivation to final packaging — and we’re proud to supply our fresh and value-added mushroom products pan-India, supporting farmers, promoting sustainability, and growing a healthier, homegrown food culture.
